FRIDAY 5/1

Wicker Park Critical Mass

Source: http://chicagocriticalmass.org/wickerparkcriticalmass

What: The Wicker Park Critical Mass – A new ride to fill the streets with bikes, art and happiness!
When: 1st Friday of every month gathering at 6:00pm
Where: Mass Up by the Nelson Algren Fountain in the Polish Triangle at the intersection of Milwaukee Ave. & Division Street

The Wicker Park Critical Mass (WPCM) proudly sprouted from the big tree, Chicago Critical Mass. Just as our city has a diverse array of neighborhoods and people, so too does its Critical Mass. Through the WPCM, and the neighborhood ‘masses in general, new and old cyclists alike are re-connecting to the freewheelin’ grassroots efforts to promote the fun and efficiency of biking through urban life. From the arterial crossroads of the Nelsen Algren fountain, our mass snakes through public spaces of architectural and artistic beauty. We are the Critical Mass of Wicker Park, the fruit of the Chicago Critical Mass, and the vehicle for public art in public space.

ALSO SATURDAY 5/2

Journey to the End of the Night
Starts Where: Streeterville
Ends Where: Co-Prosperity Sphere 3219 S Morgan St
How much: free!
To describe the game, Journey to the End of the Night is a one-night chase-race that spans 7-8 miles of the city.  We will be staging teams of performance artists at 6 locations between Streeterville and Bridgeport to serve as checkpoints for players to pass through / rest up.  While traveling from checkpoint to checkpoint, players (wearing blue ribbons) are trying to escape ‘chasers’ (wearing red ribbons) – if they are tagged, they put on a red ribbon and pursue other players for the remainder of the night.  Between 50%-75% of our players are expected to make it to the finish line anywhere between 9PM and midnight.  The game is adventurous, high-energy, gruelling and cathartic.

Journey to the End of the Night is a game we use to reintroduce players to their own city and to ‘psychogeography’ (reinventing the way you live and move in contrast to urban planning).  All our projects are presented with a zero-budget, by die-hard volunteers, and are absolutely free to play.
